The ANTISCRATCH process is a treatment mainly applied to plastic surfaces (but also to glass or painted metals) to improve their resistance to scratches and abrasion, while maintaining transparency, gloss, and aesthetic characteristics. At Vacuum Italia, it is in high demand for products in the automotive, lighting, furniture design, and prototyping sectors.
What is the antiscratch treatment?
The antiscratch treatment is a surface coating applied at Vacuum Italia through spray coating.
The coating creates a hard protective film, measurable through the Pencil Test, and reduces the risk of surface scratches or damage caused by external agents.
Application can be performed manually or with a robotic system, depending on the Client’s requirements.
Materials used
The paints are selected based on the substrate (e.g., polycarbonate, PMMA, glass, metal) and the intended use environment.
The applied coatings are also chosen according to the design parameters specified by the Client and/or based on shared testing and sampling.
Phases of the Antiscratch Process
- Surface Preparation
- Cleaning from dust, grease, or other contaminants
- Optional primer application to promote coating adhesion
- Coating Application
- Using spray guns with appropriate nozzle diameter
- Drying and Curing
- Typically performed in thermal ovens or via UV irradiation
- This step provides surface hardness and long-lasting adhesion
- Quality Control
- Pencil hardness test
- Inspection of transparency, adhesion, and uniformity
Main Advantages
- Improved aesthetic durability
- Reduced need for surface replacement or polishing
- Enhanced user experience (preserved transparency and gloss)
- Increased perceived product value
Vacuum Italia’s ANTISCRATCH process represents an advanced technological solution that combines functional protection with aesthetic excellence, ensuring customers more durable, high-performing products with greater commercial value in the most demanding markets.
